You guys responded with the insight I was hoping for - thanks again. I didn't "need" another detector but wanted to try the ATP. If I like it it will be a keeper by its versatility. It will be lighter in the rain than my CZ 20/21. A good adventure detector for a leisurely hike especially where there are rivers and streams to explore. My primary detector for a day of land hunting is my V3i, now the ATP will be the companion unit - "equal billing " . Switching off, using each at the same site(s) is something I look forward to.
Next ill pick up the 8"DD, cover, spare lower rod and hardware. The waterproof headphones make sense as I plan using the ATP freshwater hunting in my waders & wet suit.
I want to go back to the lucrative swimming area that is littered with iron but full of silver where I really did well with the Excalibur 2.

Good luck with your new detector.
It will do you well.

Yeah, I think your right...I think you will find this "all terrain" feature something that lets you get into places you would not want to lug your Cz20/21. Theres a beach here I hunt thats a mile walk from the truck, pulled a lot of silver and gold off of her with the Pro this past summer. I jog on back in there with the pro, do a quick sweep of the dry, see if theres any cuts or blowouts in the water, and jog the heck back. I also toss mine in the boat when I'm out exploring or dinking around...I got mine with the waterproof headsets too...Its really durable and I think that alone makes a fellow venture and explore places he normally would not get, in weather and situations he would not want to take a none waterproof detector into.

I guess I don't need to add anything here. My thoughts exactly.

Even though you have lots of experience, there is still going to be the "get aquainted" period. Definitely watch the videos. The Iron Audio and the Hi-Res iron discrimination are very powerful tools. I went to a tot lot and dug every signal after checking them with the iron audio. I know you will learn fast.

Yeah, what you just said Mike...the thing has a lot of features and set ups...so a guy can sort of tune it to the situation. The get aquainted period is pretty short, but the mastery of it could be a long time for me...the posts of finds and settings for the various situations from you guys that have been using it are VERY helpful to us.

Don't forget to dig those soft whispers........that's a sign that the target is deep, and we all love to dig deep targets, because they are most likely old.:detecting:

Good luck. Its a great machine.
