took the GTi for a stroll this morning

Nice find what is the necklace made of? A quick question if you are using a gti 2500 what kind of signal did the necklace give you? I have one and have yet to have any luck with necklace's or rings of much value.

the chain is a box link design. It bounced from dime to penny, then to the notch just before penny. It was so irratic that I had to dig it to see what it was. The imaging showed a "B" = coin size target. I also found a gold plated chain the other day that registered penny and gave an "A" size target, which is smaller then a coin, but it was about 4 inches deep so I decided to dig it.

The trouble with necklaces, especially the chain - your detector doesn't see the chain as a whole but one link at a time.

He digs his targets up. That's a common thread in his, ummm, thread. When in doubt, dig it out!

Thanks for the info I was wondering because I have been running my 2500 about a year and a half now and that seems to be my main pet peive, where things register. I dig nearly every solid sound between a notch below a nickel and a silver dollar and it baffels me where somethings ring in. I learned early to dig first and ask questions later, but I have dug pennies from 1 to 9 which I think is to be expected and tho not as bad, other coins will varrie widely but usually bell tone, I had a sasquatch dollar at 4 inches ring in at just above a nickel and two pennies ring in as a quater but with a bell tone. Some pennies bell tone and some dont and I figured it was the makeup of the coin but watching the dates proved that wrong I get a dud sound on a wheat and a 2000 piece of junk will bell tone I think it has more to do with the ground condition and mainly the position of the coin or coins. A wise fellow that sells md's told me if it sounds good dig it. He showed me a platinum ring with diamonds he found that rang in as 3, foil so I dig.
And by the way very nice necklace I have yet to find any of those but this may be a good thing in a way, the wife is hooked worse than myself on this metal detecting and if we found gold or silver she would not let me get any sleep. We just returned from a 10 day vacation we started at the top of Texas and went to Mustang Island and checked out parks , rest stops , schools, ball fields, and beaches there and back home to Colorado every chance we got. We found about 500 coins just over $21. but most importantly we learned a lot more about the machine and its operation. We operate as a team so to speak I run the 2500 and she runs the pinpointer and then I run the screwdriver, works quite well and keeps her out of the mall at the same time.
Thanks to all for all the continuing information.

whether it be a CZ5, CZ3d, CZ70, Cortes, Coinstrike or GTi, jewelry will and can hit in numerous areas like nickel, penny, zinc, round pulltab (if you descriminate out round pulltab, you WILL NOT FIND a lot of gold jewelry.

I like the school of thought from Tony in North Carolina, who hunts mainly with a Coinstrike, who said he digs all positive signals. Yes a lot of diggin, but he finds a lot of stuff as well.

Look at it this way Grumpy, when you or someone else gets a new detector and goes to a site that they assume is hunted out and low & behold BAM, they found a few coins, now all of a sudden this new miracle machine was sent from heaven. When in actuality, its not the machine at all, it's just a new machine that they are trying to get a feel for and so they dig all positive signals without lot of descrimination.

Thats why you see so many traded or sold right after they use them for a short period of time. Once the initial WOW factor has worn off, it's quickly realized that it's just another detector afterall. Detectors manufactures base their marketing stratagies on this concept.

Also if you aint findin Jewelry, doesn't mean the machine isn't seeing it, just might not be there or its descriminated out.

Just my take on things anyways
