Today was nice out 50* sunny but still a lot of wind !! i figured i would hit the old school yard that has been hunted a thousand times i wanted to see how the new Insight worked hip mounted and the S-12 coil with shortened coil wire, i took the chart with me to see if the meter numbers matched up with the chart sure enough it was right on !! $1.03 in clad and .... all the clad was deep and old 60,s 70,s a few Penny's 90,s , i dug a 10K earring and a lead gekco lizard :clapping:very happy with the results Good hunting Jim

Jim, nice finds. How much deeper were these overall?

My buddy and me have hit this sports field many many times in the past years i thought the section i hunted today was clean ,no way i had signals the whole time most clad and junk was between 6 and 8 inches the brass gear was at 10" but it is really large ,if it wasnt for the never ending wind i could of dug for hours i did have a few half eaten zink pennys that were very shallow and a few pull tabs , overall i was suprised at the depth of clad coins in packed tight moist soil , the quarters were dated 60,s the dimes 70,s i did have a chunk of can slaw that was deeper then my 11 inch Raven shovel  .GH Jim

Had you used the gt before w/ the stock coil on this field??? Are you finding the meter reinforces the tones you recognize for specific targets???

Just curious.....

I used the 10" stock coil many times in that field it,s a good coil but now i like the S-12 better it,s deeper ,now i see the numbers on the meter the tones are the same no differance there, a nickle sounds the same at 149 just deeper now ,in the past i have found lot,s of silver coins in that field and was hopeing today but no luck i wanted to see if i could hear the differance without looking at the meter . hope this answered your question. Jim

As you see it is sensitive and it does go deep and I think you will see some great finds you had missed before using the S-12.

Good Luck

I have an s-12 on the way, along with an s-5 for high-trash areas - I'm still learning my GT - it's new to me, but it is coming to me. I look forward to using all thee coils under different circumstances, but it sounds like I made some good choices between the Excal, the GT with 10" and then getting the s-12 and s-5 to boot.

From what i have been reading the 10" T on a Excal is a killer combo ! on the Sov GT the S-12 and S-5 you cant go wrong good choise ,between those 2 i dont think ill need the 8" Tornado as far as the WOT 15 i have swung on a friends GT it seems to heavy unless you have one of those bungie cords plus it really does not find much more then the S-12.5 HH Jim

I have a S-5 and it's a great little coil. In air tests I'm getting about 7 or 8" in depth. That's impressive for a coil that is only 5.5" in diameter. That's as good of depth as I used to get on my Whites with the 9.5" coil. Haven't used the coil much yet but already have dug a rosie that was 6 or 7" deep between two shallow pull tabs at a pounded out park.
