Took the F-75 to the downtown parking meter poles today

It actually performed better than I thought it would. I had brought the Golden with a 4" coil cause I knew it would be trashy and it was. The Golden spent much of it's time giving overload signals, so I put it up and got out the F-75 to see how it would fare. Turned the disc all the way up, lowered the sens to 30, DE mode, 3 tone and started popping dimes. It handled the trash very well, had no trouble singing out a high tone for the pennies and dimes and I dug no crown style bottle caps this outing. The Fe graph gave them away. Come to think of it as I write this, I don't even think I ground balanced here. It would of still been on 88 from the last site. That is interesting.

Well, anyway...it handled a high disc, low sens setting for some very high trash sites very well. I was impressed.

Mike, think this setting would be good for hunting football and soccer fields. The ones we hunt are pretty trashy around the bleachers and concession stands. Same with all the park picinic tables. The M6 overloads on all the foil, PT and SC left behind and by the time you weed threw it all it just seems like a waiste of time.

Looking forward to the F75 hunting those football and soccer fields fast also. That large coil in those not so trashy fields should bring up my totals on clad and jewelry.

Thanks for the report. They sure seem to be far and in between for a new High end machine thats be sold out a couple of times. I expected a ton of hunts and finds being posted by now.

Mine will be here tomorrow morning. When I get some soil conidition numbers I will shoot them over to you and maybe you can help me out with some good settings.

You picked the right detector, Tink.

Work has kept me so busy during the month of April and May that my detecting time has been scarce, and that scarse time has been involved on some comparision testing. But my wife and I are working on getting more time in, so I should be posting more as the summer starts and I start taking days off.

I"ve been hunting a Boy Scout "assembly" grounds that has very little trash. I pretty much settled on disc.6, sen. 60-70, 3h tones and de process. Many $ in clad so far, some as deep as 10-11", but only 3 silver coins, 2 Merc's and a Rosie, and 2 Buffalo nickels, plus numerous Boy Scout items. The site itself is not all that old and one of the groundskeepers said fill had been brought in over the years. Although I do try other settings, I like the 3h tones as I can still identify items with that setting and get a high tone for nickels. And, my f75 does love nickels. HH jim tn

Thanks for the setting Jim, they went into the little notebook I have saved notes about the F75 posted on forums. At 4:18 this morning my F75 was loaded on the Brown truck for delivery. Santa Claus is coming to Town.

I set up for the targets and depth.

Most of us set up for targets but don't properly set up for depth.

This allows you to not over-drive the sensitivity control by setting up properly for depth. Once you've done this a few times in different ground conditions you get to where you pretty much know what sensitivity settings and coil overlap to use for the target depth you're after.

One thing I do is to determine how much ground coverage I can get at depth so I know what sweep overlap to use. Dig a plug and plant a dime or a nickel or both at 4-6 inches, and starting at 0 sens, raise the sens up until you are picking up the coin along at least 8" of the coil. I want to be able to pick it up at least a 1-1/2" back from the tip of the toe of the coil. That way I know for a fact that I'm getting 8" of ground coverage at that depth and know what coil sweep overlap to use to ensure I get even coverage down to that depth. The same works for deeper targets as well. For example, if you want to focus on stuff in the 8" range, you adjust it to get the most coil coverage possible at that depth and adjust your coil sweep overlap accordingly. Typically at that depth you will only be getting between 3-5" of coil coverage depending on soil type and condition. The center of the coil will always go deeper so I know if the center of my coil goes over it, I'll find deeper items.

You'll feel a lot more confident about your settings, coil overlap, and what you are not missing when you hunt a site.

Be sure to include the air gap from the grass height or gravel, etc.

Thanks Mike, great information I probably would have overlooked. I have planted a few coins a few weeks ago in my test area at different depth. Probably not the best location as a power line run overhead. But it will give me a chance to test interference also on the machine.

I also have a playground right outside my door I have hammered the last 3 years. Deepest target I have found in it is at about 7". Its pretty much a clay base and most stuff seems to sit of it. I have never dug any silver from it but a lot of 60s and some 50s pennies. Going to be a great test area for depth and learning the F75 a little.
