Took the C$ out for a trial run

Did a bunch of bench testing for several days since it was raining and cold. Today it reached around 45 degrees, overcast, called for rain by the afternoon.
By the time I could get away for some hunting it was 4pm. Wouldn't you know it, it started to sprinkle as I walked out the door. Drove away from the rain to spot I have been looking at
for sometime. Entrance way into a 1900 Mental Institution, with a lawn bowling facilty to the right. Got there it was raining very lightly. waited it out. Rain left, cold front and wind came thru.
Froze my butt for 3 hours. This place was loaded with bottle caps, they all ran in at around 18-19, after maybe bouncing if rusty. A great learning experience....................know where they come in,
at least the ones thrown about at that place. The lawn mower helped distribute them everywhere. Besides a few nails, rivets, screw, tin foil, managed to extract 2 dimes, nickel and 3 pennies.

Overall found the C$ easy to use, especially after owning learning to operate the ID Edge, F5 and Tek Omega. What I learned from using them made the C$ transition fairly easy. I did find it became a bit harder to swing around the 3 hour mark. Should have exercised this winter.......

Didn't expect to find much today as it was mainly to go out and learn the C$.
Had a blast with the Edge and 6" coil, it was a coin magnet. One came with the C$, will try that out next time....................

Hurry up! We wanna see good finds. EMI can be eliminated by adjusting the Threshold down a little, also will stabilize the C$ in bad soil, ID will be less jumpy too.

:heh:
Had no EMI problems today.
Sens 5, Threshold 0, disc 5, nothing notched. Also played with some other settings, higher sens, -5 to -20 threshold........

Think I need to do some improvements. like you rear battery for some better balance and run time. And change out the arm cuff, there is an improvement in forearm strain (in my case)
if a 1" strip of foam is added to the inside of the arm cuff. Which raises the forearm off the s-handle a bit higher. I have a Teknetics Delta arm cuff here that is higher, if I can find it.

PS, I'm due for some good finds.

Remember the discrimination control on the C$ is Iron only, even at MAX, that is to say with it set to MAX it stops just below foil. The only discrimination above that is the notch system.

I can't set the disc too high as after 1968 Canadian clad is made of nickle plated steel. If on edge fall into the minus number range. -16 to -18 (nickles and dimes), -21 (quarters) , -22 to -26 ( $1 & $2 coins).
There's a lot on edge that others have missed. The newer $1 coins seem to register the minus number lying flat or on edge. I have a cheat sheet stuck to the side of the C$ for easy viewing. Once I get hunting more with the C$, will update it for myself. Haven't yet checked to see exactly were on the number scale those minus numbers no longer produce a tone. Then anything below -27 I would disc out. And then notch out the foil range might be a good start.

Hey SVEN,Do you still have the I.D. Edge? Also they say steel bottle caps are the trouble some ones with the coinstrike.

Sold it a couple years ago.
Steel bottlecaps not really a trouble, if they are discriminated out so is the modern day Canadian clad. Are a Pain in the butt to keep finding bottle caps, somewhat used to it.
By the way the Edge liked bottle caps as well.
