Took the 705 for first hunt

I took my "new to me " x-terra 705 out for its" first hunt today.
Found a rail road spike, quarter, dime, screw , pull tab and owl pin, best of all was a History Channel 177 token in great shape.
This all came from "tot lots" that I have hunted before.
Very happy with the 705...traded my Gold Bug 2 for it.

The Gold Bug 2 is a fine machine of very narrow usability. The 705 is so much more practical and flexible! Excellent trade! Unless you needed a dedicated micro-jewelry, micro gold (micro foil?) machine, then maybe not so much.
Happy hunting!

I got an Explorer and had the GB2 but I wanted an "all around" detector a I do dry wash for gold and can still search the tailings....works for me.

The 705 is my 4th detector, and I have been using it for the last month with mixed results. I'm not fond of the "wrap-around" vid, and it's a little confusing the way it rings off with 40+ vids when off center on a piece of metal that ends up being in the negative numbers. Oh, and don't get me started on can slaw. Is it so difficult for people to throw away their trash? The 705 LOVES can slaw.

That being said, this machine is much more sensitive then either the Fisher F5, or the Tesoro Deleon, and so far, much more stable. As a turn and go machine, the decision Leon has it beat. For options, it's probably on par with the F5. Ease of use, the DeLeon wins.

I guess time will tell. So far though, I'm getting too many false signals for my tastes.

Yes, I thought of that, and I've started to bring it down quite a bit to see if it helps. Currently I just have the stock coil (concentric), and my gb is in the mid 30s to 40s, so what would be a good second coil to get for coin and jewelry?

First of all this is JMO. I am new to the 705 and used this machine to replace 2 other machines. I like to dry land jewelry hunt and went on a 2 year gold drought with the replaced machines. I'm not saying they wouldn't find a gold ring, all I know is they didn't for me using 3 different coils with very little disc if any. I use the 705 with stock coil on ground that runs in the 30's up. I use the 10.5 MF coil for the those tough volley ball courts. That haul in sand usually runs 10-15. I found 2 gold rings in 2 weeks in heavily hunted spots, not only by me, but many others. Both of these rings were no doubt being missed and they were in prime target spots in the hunting areas. I don't think I was reaching them with the other machines. Anyway difference of opinion is what makes horse racing? HH

 Glad to hear that you're getting along with your new 705! It really is the most underrated detector on the market.

There is no reason for 705 to false. It's a seriously stable detector, especially when compared to a First Texas machine. Coming from a Tesoro and a Fisher, there's a good chance that you just need to slow down. I would only start turning the Sensitivity down after slowing down your sweep speed.

Will do. Tomorrow's weather is looking good. Maybe a lunch time hunt will be a good time to try that out. I was running the sensitivity in the mid 20s, so it may have been too high. I'll jet you know.

Ok. I did as suggested. I reduced my sensitivity, and my swing speed. I do believe it helped. In a very trashy park, I managed to find a quarter, a dime, a nickel and two penny's over lunch. I did see though the limits of my stock coil in very heavy trash, and I believe that I will need a smaller 6 inch coil for areas like that. I have also tried to be more patient about digging those "I know it's foil or a pulltab" signals, in the hopes that someday I will be wrong, and it will be gold instead. So far, I've never been wrong. Lol
