I found a honey hole for fishing sinkers (on shore). Pockets were so weighed down with lead I found it was slowing me down.

I tried a nearby fishin location and was detecting along the shoreline. After awhile I stopped digging the sinkers. Now I know how Ian must feel. Was running the detector in coin mode but the sinkers were showing up under the penny icon, don't know why.Anyone knows the answer I'd sure like to know.

Actually found a live round for a small calibre firearm...handgun?Its at the top of the picture right of centre.

All the coins are clad....... oldest was 1968.

Met a fella while I was there and we talked for about an hour about detecting.I needed the break I plan to go back again in the not to near future.Had enough sinkers for now.

They sure do look like heavy sinkers those ones! (And more than I found today too! :)
For me, I don't mind seeing the sinkers (keys too) when I beach hunt, as a ring or two is more often than not close at hand, especially at beaches that have had a lot of non-angling people too.

Yah they made the sinkers heavy so that when it hits the fish it knocks them out and they float to the surface. I can only imagine how many are in the water at this location.
The signal is so strong in the coin range that its always surprising when I dig up a sinker. Like you and John mentioned I need to dig them or I'll miss the good targets.

Cheers!
