Took Out The Garrett GTI 2500 For A Snow Hunt Today!

Took out the Garrett GTI 2500 this afternoon. I used the Scorcher coil, which doesn't allow imaging. However, it was nice to hear the oversize target ringing audio when going over some beer cans buried in the snow. I hunted in true all metal mode, which is just as deep as the AT Gold and maybe the AT MAX. It gives a VDI number for the target and a depth reading when pinpointing. Although I didn't use the program, the GTI 2500 has a "surface Blanking" program, which tunes out the shallow targets and only beeps on the deep ones. Many of us have been hoping/asking for years to add the Imaging (sizing) feature, the large target warning and surface blanking to the newer models.

Below are the dug coins from today......I hunted for about 1 1/2 hours, with a comfortable temperature of -7 C / 19.4 F, no wind and a bright sunshine. I am going to sleep well tonite! :goodnight:

Well done, John!

... From sunny Florida. I went out yesterday also, with the GTI2500. Only had two hours. Came up with some modern coins, plus something that looks like the innards of a combination lock or maybe a clock. It's old, and right now it's soaking, trying to get some of the rust off, to maybe find out what it is (will post pictures when done).

The GTI sized the coins and the relic perfectly.

The GTI2500 is a superb detector. Deep and accurate, and the target sizing is unmatched anywhere else.

The surface elimination is also valuable. That feature, especially combined with target sizing, sets it apart from all other detectors.

Note to Garrett: You know you've got competition against your AT series including the Max, from a half-dozen other manufacturers. They all go deep and are stable. They all give good numeric VDI readings, and they have good battery life, etc etc (sorry for yawning).

What's the next step? If you add surface elimination and especially target imaging to the AT Max, you'll have a truly "maximum" detector. No competition at all. Come on, you already know how to handle the dual signal processing, and already have the coil design.

People will start lining up fast.

Cheers,

Joe

Here are the "relics" found with the GTI2500 yesterday. There also were some modern coins, not shown here.

The GTI found the metal targets, and ID'd them perfectly for type, depth, and size. Every time I take this detector out, I realize how powerful it is. It's a pleasure to use.

The little face with the bad attitude was a surface find -- no clue what it was supposed to be. Who needs it? It'll get pitched out, good riddance.

Now for the large metal item with the gears. It was about 8 inches down, in a curb strip where old buildings existed since the 1870s, torn down in the 1950s. There were not any other pieces in or near the hole -- any ideas for what it is?

Not bad for a quick hunt. Only had two hours -- on a "cool" day by Florida standards, 60 degrees in the sun.

Cheers,

Joe

Make sure you send this suggestion to Garrett. They do listen to their customers and often times make future changes.

I find it hard to believe that they don't read the forums. One phone call can't match an open, public discussion over a period of time.

The AT Max has direct competition from other manufacturers, feature by feature.

What it DOESN'T have, and what the others DON'T have, is there in the GTI2500. It's the target imaging and the surface elimination.

Otherwise, it's something less than "Max".

I would never give up my GTI2500 for another detector that lacks the GTI's features.
