Took my Vaqueros out this morning

2 Much Trash

Well-known member
Have had the V for almost 2 years. Only used it once or twice when I first got it. Got another high end machine about the same time and that's what I've been using. After doing some backyard tests lately with the Vaquero I decided to leave my go to machine at home and and just take the V. I wanted to try it out in an iron patch at this site I've been hunting. I set disc just a tad above iron and super tuned. I dug all signals, little blips, scratchy ones , one way hits, and of course the good solid ones. My buddies and I have been hunting this area pretty hard for some time. Though we have pulled a few targets out of this iron patch we mostly avoid it. I did dig some aluminum trash but also 12 bullets and even a pewter flat button. The bullets were a softer, cleaner sound, aluminum a little sharper and harsher on the edges but so was the button. Most targets were probably 6 to 7 inches. Not bad at all considering all the small iron that's in this spot. I'm thinking the Vaquero could unmask the Lone Ranger.
Thanks for looking , HH

That's a bunch bullets! Using too much discrimination mask a lot of good targets.

Thanks Tabman. There's no question too much disc will mask good targets. That's why I always use as little discrimination as possible for the site I'm hunting. My objective this morning was to see how, in the real world, not my backyard, how fast the V would recover after discriminating out nuisance iron and hit the good target. Wasn't really concerned about missing a lot of good targets as I only had about 2 hours to hunt. Just checking out how the Vaquero would perform in this iron infested spot. It did very well in my opinion. I could have taken any of my machines and hunted in all metal and of course dug more good targets and tons more trash but that's not what I was looking to do.
Thanks Pal , I enjoy all your posts :beers:
