Took my new SE Pro out for a spin this morning

at a park downtown and got my butt kicked by my buddy Lee and his "old" XS.:veryangry: I was happy for him, but I went around this old tree and then he came right behind me and pulled out a worn 1917 merc dime!! I have mixed emotions now and kind of dumb founded that my SE didn't pick up that merc. It was down a good six or seven inches, but I missed it somehow. He showed me another spot where in the past he has gotten a good signal under a tree root and gave up trying to find the target. I got a signal and he said, yep that's the spot. I was determined to find out what it was hoping maybe for silver and after about ten minutes of tough digging I finally pulled out a 1951 wheatie. I know I have some learning to do with the SE and I hope it starts clicking for me and if I get too frustrated I'll always have my trusty "ole" XS to fall back on. No pictures this time fellows, but who the heck wants to see a picture of a 51 wheatie. HH.

Eddie...hopefully it will come together in time.

The SE takes a little more "getting used to" than the XS and EX2.

While it does speak the explorer language...it also has a little gibberish to it that the other two explorers don't.:bouncy:

I can relate Eddie, I' trying to learn my Explorer as well. On top of that it is my first Minelab.I am confident I will be victorious though, because I simply will not give up. Good luck with yours and I hope to be posting some pics of some good finds soon.

had my se 2 months now still get strange momounts with it but most of time snoopy rocks thats what i call my se cause it sniffs out great stuff from iron so well specialy copper large cents at old sites still anit heard that silver warble bryce talks about even on barber dime i found couble days ago most be my old rock and roll ears dimes and quaters all sound same all opitions set to hear lots of tones but mostle hear high and low hunt ferrous alot at iron infested colonial sites seems to work best us all metal alot also just listen for the highs between the iron constant grunts and out pops the goodies

Eddie, all explorers the same except few improvement and SE have most of it, biggest is pro coil. different is how you use your explorer. if your sensitivity manual you will get more death, if you use little or no discrimination you will get more speed. it just few simple things that can improve your detecting, but in this detectors you have much more that you will learn in future. good luck Stasys plus if you got package with koss headphones use it, its very good sound quality, but cant say about their design.

Its all about the nut behind the wheel and all will fall into place..Next time your buddy gets a good deep silver reading ask him to let you listen before its dug as it will help your break in period...

stasys and nidan 98 for the advice and encouragement. I know it's going to take me some time to learn the SE and God willing I'll still have enough time to figure it out. I think I just forgot the basics on my first run with my SE and didn't go slow enough and try and listen to what it was telling me. I did get the Koss headphones with my SE, but I really prefer my Pro-Gold that I have been using for a couple of years now. Thanks again fellows and maybe one of these days I can post some nice finds that I found with my new toy. GL & HH to all of you.

Eddie.... i hunt with people using the XS and thats just a darn good machine. Simple sometimes work. I like my SE, but it really does come down to the guys using it all other things being equal. Bragging rights makes hunting with friends part of the fun. Head phones do make a difference on what you hear and HOW you hear it. I have 3 or 4 pair and each sound different. One pair i cant tell the difference from a clad or silver coin. The others are very distinct and its no doubt when silver passes under the coil.

i got the koss head phones with my se but found the fit to my head terrible loose glad i got a pair of grey ghosts at same time i orded my se love thier fit but still cant tell diff between silver and clad not a big deal ill still dig clad gas rebate lol

Hi Eddie. I bought Bryce's SE and it has been a lot of fun. He told me to be prepared for a lot of gibberish and he was right but after a few hunts I understand what it says most of the time. I never held a metal detector in my hands my entire life until just a few months ago so I have no other machine to compare it too. I told Bryce to leave the exact same settings in that he found all the silver with the last few years and I have never changed a thing since. About a week after he sold me his... he missed it and bought another SE...lol. He hunts with the SE almost all the time and only uses the etrac every so often.
