Took Digger's advice

I was talking to a friend Sunday after hunting several places that day and was telling him about a permission spot that I had up the road from my house. The residence was built in 1950 and I had found silver coins in curb strip near by and at another residence that I hunted a few houses down. I told my friend that I was really shocked because I worked the front yard really well and only found clad and not even a wheat cent. The only thing old that I had found was a Tootsie Toy Roadster that was pretty cool. He asked me if there was a lot of iron in the yard and I told him that I really didn't know because I had been using Program 1 that discs out iron but that it seemed pretty clean. He and I agreed that we had never hunted an old residence that had probably gone through a shingle change and not found iron especially shingle nails. Well, after hanging up with him, I got to remembering Randy's book and how he stated that he always hunted with no discrimination. I had setup Program 4 that way when I first got the detector but really haven't used it very much because it makes the detector so noisy. Let me also say that I have had Xterra's in the past, the 50 and a 705 but always ran them with iron discriminated out best I could remember. I got home yesterday after work and really wasn't feeling well because my Rheumatoid Arthritis was really flaring up and I was discouraged. I took some pain meds when I got home and after a couple of hours started feeling better. My wife had gone to WalMart to buy something for dinner and I decided to get my butt up out of the chair and go hunt the back yard of the permission residence. I decided that I was going to hunt with Randy's setup. This place was very trashy with iron signals everywhere. I was using the 5X10" DD and I was getting getting some good signals between all the iron grunts and decided to stay with the program. I dug my first wheat cent and a couple more pennies and then got a really nice high tone and a 42 at about 6 inches. Dug my flap and out came a 1961 Washington, my first silver from this residence. I kept hunting and dug another wheat penny and a few other targets. I was at the back part of the yard and got a iron signal and then an immediate high tone in the same swing very close together. I thought it was wrap for a second but noticed the numbers were not high enough to be wrap around. A light bulb went off and I thought to myself, "so this is what Digger is talking about." I dug down about 4 inches and sure enough, out comes a 1948 Rosie and a piece of rusted iron within an inch or two of each other. Okay, Randy, You are the man and it's no disc for me from now on. Thanks for the good advice and your excellent book !!!!

Great job! The X-Terra has so many hunting options! No disc is really the best way to go with the X-Terra's at old trashy iron sites. Specifically, NO DISC, AM, 99 TONES. Using AM will allow you to use the 'wiggle toward you' technique that can help to identify those iffy signals, especially in trashy sites. A wrap-around is when the signal hit's the highest point (48 being like the 12:00 on a clock on your 705) and 'wraps around the 'clock' to hit the lowest point (-8 being like the 1:00 on the 705). These are usually larger iron targets, but deeper coins can act this way at the very max of detection depth. HH, Scott

sweeet, you got some silver, wtg.

some times I run in AM, patt 1 or some times in AM with 2 tones. It all depends on the site I'm at
