Took a ride to Hampton Beach NH

I took the day off yesterday to try the excal at Hampton Beach NH and bring my boys to the beach and see how they do at the ocean. Well we left the baby with a sitter and the other 2 are 3 and 5 and we headed out later than planned then we got stuck in traffic and finally got there around 11 am way to many people on the beach it was so crowded I opted not to detect. Boys loved the water/ sand so it was a great trip anyways. I think ill try it again this weekend but leave about 4am. Alone I'm Just dying to use the excal 2.

My old stomping ground! I know how you feel about all the people. I was shy about that too for awhile but have learned that most will ignore you especially if you don't make eye contact. Just go for it and enjoy yourself!

Yeah? That sounds like a plan! I have a beach like that here...You gotta time it just right! I try to hit it super early on a Sunday after a big hot crowded Sat...like 3:30 or 4am...after the beach patrol makes its final pass at 3am or so....I also watch the webcam on that beach during the day and into the evening, to see where the crowds are conglomerating, surf conditions, cuts forming, etc...and if theres some old guy (or several) sweeping the towel line at dusk, which a local is apt to do on a daily basis..you would be amazed at some of these old guys! Now, we are in the dark of the moon phase right now, so if you head out prepared with a plan, have your rig set up prior all ready to go, so you dont have to fiddle around, wear very light shorts so you can really move, even something as simple as shorts/footwear makes a huge difference..I hunt barefoot, on account of theres no faster footwear on the sand than barefeet!

Hit that towel line hard and fast in the dark, you dont need a light, your eyes will adjust quickly, dont bother looking at your finds, just sweep and harvest as fast as you can with a light sandscoop... get back to your car and dump your finds, drink a massive swill of coffee, eat a banana, take another 250mg aspirin, grab your water scoop and hit the waterline at predawn, 5:30am, progressively working your way out deeper as the sun comes up, find the cut!...you can pretty much be done and out by 7:30-8:00 and home making pancakes for the wife and kids before anybody even knows you are gone!...If you want to stay and hunt after the people show up, you pretty much gotta be in the water..bring some high energy snacks and something to drink...plan it out good and seriously hit it for Old Glory!...I'm excited for you buddy!:beers:
Mud.

@togamac how did you do when you hunted that beach I hope you did well I hope it's a good spot lots of beach to cover. I will try not to make eye contact thanks for the advise.

@Mud thanks for all the great advise I plan to get up at 3am it's an 1 hour drive with no traffic so hope to be at and on beach for 4 am Sunday. I have a buddy that wants to go so I plan to follow your advice hit the towel line area first and see how it goes. Then the wet sand/surf. I have a high pair of dive boots so I'll try them out ,,what I'm worried about is walking long distances after getting soaking wet in salt water. But I'll find out soon enough.

I cruised up and down the strip very slowly in my '52 Ford flathead V8, lowered in the back, glass packs, fender skirts, blue pine tree hanging from the rear view mirror, about 5 mph, ogling all the sweet teeny boppers walking on the sidewalk. Round and round we went hoping one of them would take us up on our offer of a ride. Usually struck out and went home alone. (Girls were different in those days son). But boy o boy, the memories, the smells, the sounds!

Oh, did you mean metal detecting?

Never have hit that beach my friend. Moved away in '73 and have returned only a few times since.
But, there's gold in them thar sands. If I were to go back, I'd try wading about waist deep at low tide, and just move in with the tide. Lot of ground to cover laddie but we have faith in you. Go for it and let us know how you did!
We also used to go to the state line because you could drink beer in Mass but not NH. A lot of young drunks on the beach equals tons of finds!

@togamac yes in the mid 80's I had a lot of fun at Hampton beach made the ride up there to many time to remember it was a crap hole back then and WOW have they cleaned it up its beautiful now. I use to ride my motorcycle up there great ride.

Got up to the beach around 5:30 am this morning just as the sun was coming up. I couldn't believe how many guys were detecting already. There had to be a dozen and they all had excaliburs except one guy I saw had the ctz3030. I spent 3 hours from the towel line to the surf. I noticed when the salt water hits the coil I start beeping seemed to settle in????. I went from disc to pinpoint tring to learn the different sounds. I keep sensitivity at auto so that may have something to do with it falsing or that may be normal , I just need to learn how to read it. Buddy bailed on me he wanted to slept in so I was hoping to find a lot but only about $2 in change and junk. Better luck next time.
