I am a counselor at a private school for emotionally disturbed kids. Today, I took one of my kids to the park, handed him the metal detector, turned it on, and away he went.

He did well. First rattle out of the box, he finds a quarter. He finds, I dig. Then he finds some trash, but hits a sweet spot and finds 2 more quarters and the occasional penny.

In 30 minutes, he has found 4 quarters, 4 pennies, and a HUGE smile!!!

I am just trying to do my best to show these kids there is more to life than video games.

It takes a special person now days to do what you do..My hat is off to you!!
You must be a great person with a big heart.
I have three grand sons ages 3,10 and 12 which i have givin metal detectors too.
To see the excitement and smiles on them when they find something gives me much happiness in my old age.
In fact the 10 year old sleeps with his and the 3 year old walks around goin beep..beep..beep.
It puts a smile on me too!!
Again i salute you and keep up the great work you do with the kids!!!

THANK YOU...SMEEKS

Congrats on what your doing with those kids.:clapping:
Not an easy task and sometimes little rewards to deal with these children.

A smile on a kid does the heart good, double thumbs up!!

Hey! Thanks for the compliments.

But I wasn't trying to toot my own horn...just reporting that a newcomer was very successful very quickly, and I may have hooked another prospector!

I plan on using this with other kids and recommending it to my other counselors. It was a great way to bond with an adult and "work together", which is something many of these kids don't have...parents or a significant adult role model doing something productive with them.

I am glad I found this hobby and it is being fun and appropriate in many ways for me.

I wanted a metal detector. My dad said I didn't want to work for my money, I just wanted to find it. Well he was wrong but he put me down enough that I didn't start detecting till I was in my 40's. ALL the missed oppurtunities I had, Maine, Okinawa, Texas, Guam and California.

Detecting is work but it is FUN and RELAXING work.

Your giving a kid a way to relax and be excited to find money. And MAYBE just MAYBE he can have a hobby instead of getting in trouble OR worrying about his problems. AND, to think about it, even though I have never been drunk or have done drugs. They are an escape AND so is detecting. Your in your own world, getting exercise, staying away from the crowd, either good or bad and and picking up some history and spending money at the same time. How cool is that??

Now all you need are a few good but cheap Ace 250's or something along that line to be able to let the kids use IF you can trust them. Fantastic job!!!!

A big thumps to a great person!

[size=large]WTG. it gets the kids away from the brain sucking electronics of computers and t.v. finding something and retrieving it real time is always better'n fantsy. they find it and learn how to id it and as said before they might even learn some interesting history. you're doing good.
