Too Much Discrimination

Ronk

Active member
I've been over this same place more times than I can count and I thought I've scanned every inch of ground. But all this time I had too much discrimination and I was barley at foil rejection.I turned down the disc to just slightly below foil reject and found a tiny woman's ring.No wonder I missed it all these years and it was very shallow..maybe 2 inches. If you want to find that small jewelry you HAVE to use very little discrimination and dig some foil even if the ID or audio says different. I didn't post the ring yet. It's not a great find but it was so easily missed because I didn't think that small of a ring would register so low on the scale.Who knows how many more I've walked right over in the past or present?

i went 15 years before i found any gold.....after i found that first piece i was more willing to use less disc andn chase some of those iffy signals...within the next year i found somewhere near 1000 dollars melt value in gold.... some lessons just take a long time to learn....

You have to keep it :detecting:low to get the gold, the best discriminator is your shovel! Good luck!

Right now my ground is hard as concrete because of the Hot summer and no rain so My best discriminator is a Jack Hammer!

That's the hardest thing to get others to believe. I understand why. You also get teeny pieces of foil, etc. When I use my Compadre, I set it right at the beginning of the iron icon-just enough for small nails and paperclips.

Sometimes we just have to have a little patience and dig some of those Foil readings just barely at or a little above Iron or nail rejection. The ring I found was extremely small and usually don't have my disc set too far below foil but I guess it pays IF we have patience and are willing to get our hands a little dirty.I believe there are lots of good small targets that we walk over sometimes because of Too much disc and sometimes we think that those Iffy signals are just junk and we pass them along to the person walking behind us that's willing to dig those kind of signals. Most of those Iffy signals around here where I hunt are usually hot rocks or foil but for reason I decided to dig this one to be sure and I was surprised.I guess I will start to pay more attention from now on.

Hey Ron K
I have a few MD's but I find I use my Vaquero more frequently. The reason is the simplicity and I found more with it than any of my other MD's. The main reason, for me, is the fact there are no annoying readouts, or multiple tones. I simply keep my disc to just above iron and go. Dig it all is best.

agreed ,the gold finds missed due to error must be alarming ,good that we dont know whats actually under our feet

I have to agree with targets. I don't think I really want to know what I may have missed. Like it or not, those that dig it all end up with the most and best goodies over the long haul.
