Tony,
I air tested my older Sov against my GQ SS tonight and was surprised.
$1 coin
Sov 10 inch coil repeatable signal at 11.5 inches
GQSS 11 inch mono repeatable signal at 10 inches
I know that PI's go much deeper in salt but a wonder what the differance in mild ground or dry sand. Any toughts.

Bill,
The Goldquest SS will go a fair bit deeper (size for size) on gold targets than it will on typical coins.
On the GQSS, the pulse delay/width is optimised for gold, so coin depth is not as deep.
From memory, my GQSS will pick up a $1 coin at about 13", whereas, an 18kt wedding band can be picked up at around 16"...this is in beach conditions.

Tony,
I live near Sydney and detect salt and freshwater beaches as well as heading for the gold fields now and then. I will try my GQ and Sov on a gold ring tonight.
