Tones on the E

Some of the post I have been following up on brougt up the iffy signal topic and I thougt I would follow it up with a bit of a question about the TONEs. With my older explorers I had better Tonal quality than with my E trac. Dont get me wrong I love my sweat E but I do not get that funny warble of a silver coin tone like I did with the explorer line. I believe its something to do with the way the machine now processes the return signal and with the strightening of the line so that we dont get the bounce as much on our machine (E) than with the Explorer. Now this being said I would not go back to the Ex I had before but I wonder if there is a way to get a more pronounced silver tone with the E. I have messed with the tones and yea it changes the tone but I still find it hard by sound to diferentiate the silver from a regular dime by sound. I now tend to watch the depth meter much more for a gauge of weather its a silver coin or not based on depth. I dig them anyway I just like to try to know the target before I dig it so I can "show off".
Lets see what yall have to say bout that.

Tough question Shovelhead.

I hunted with an original Explorer XS from 2000 to fall of 2009 and became very familiar with the tinkling of silver. But I didn't have an Explorer II until this last summer when I picked up a used one for my daughter. It has been a common theme amongst Explorer users that the EX II has the BEST audio of them all.

I do hear the tinkling of silver with the E-trac, but not as definite or as rich a sound as with my Exp XS. I hunt in Conductive Multi-sounds. I keep my audio gain no higher than 24 so that I keep some depth modulation. This helps a lot when identifying a deep target by sound and lends to a certain warble for a deeper target. I have variability set at 29. (I don't like that last high tone that comes in when set to 30)

To put the two of them side by side, and listen to the audio, there is a difference that I can hear. I've always used 'regular' audio because I didn't care for the audio tendencies of the other 3 choices. Perhaps one of the other audio modes would help. Anybody else??

I played around with my audio settings some. I can tell the difference between a silver tone and i high tone. It's like an octave or two higher that what it was.

I have noticed that if I set the Audio Response to LONG i can tell the difference better but not always when it comes to silver coins. Give it try.
