Tones in prospecting mode

Have been testing out the tones in prospecting mode on sports field, this seemed to be the best mode to use to find deep coins, it is not an easy mode to use in a trashy area though. The ground switch on the control box doesn't cancel the tones in this mode so ground balance can be updated and locked, but any button on the display does cancel the tones. Pulling on the trigger or pushing forward turned off the tones or can be used for pinpointing but the tones returned when trigger is centered. I found a low SAT speed threshold at 12' o'clock and sweeping slower with lower gain to listen for the threshold changes with slight tone worked best, too high a gain was worse. Sometimes there was no VID only threshold change with tone mixed in. The only way to use the tones was to start in Jewelry mode with tones and then switch to prospecting.

That secret mode has a lot of potential, and the adjustable SAT speed while still having tones is why Whites left it the way it is. Its not in the manual due to being a tough one to explain and it is no where near polished. I could see people trying to use this mode and exiting out of it by accident a lot(turning on the backlight or any button under the LCD screen).

Can someone explain how to this secret mode works? Is there anything special you have to do to get into it? It is one of the programs I do not use currently. Thanks.

If you start in coin/jewelery mode turn on tones then change toggle down to prospecting, now you can hunt in prospecting all metal mode with tones and vdi# you can also watch the ground phase number . You are still able to use the ground lock/track toggle but none of the diplay buttons or the tones will turn off. The disc (dual control) knob is now the adjustable s.a.t speed, the preset is at 5
I found this info on another website;

"With the adjustable S.A.T. control, one can set up the threshold re-set speed for the different hunting conditions encountered while detecting. With slower S.A.T. speeds, one can detect targets deeper than they can in the same instance with a fast S.A.T., because your giving the circuit more time to analyze the signal. The trade off is that the ground will also have an affect. Tougher ground generally requires a faster S.A.T. In general, use the lowest SAT setting that allows for smooth operation. As ground variations increase, setting a higher self adjusting threshold can be beneficial. At low settings, the coil can be swept slower. High settings demand a faster sweep rate."

Hope this helps
