tones and ID F70

Eric

New member
Even with low sensitivity settings in certain areas the Id is jumping from low to high numbers and the tones as well. Should I just go for the solid hits in this case? Mostly those areas are somewhat littered with foil.

Thanks, Eric.

lowering your threshold some. In some spots I've found the low threshold will quiet down stuff like small bits of foil (talking little match head sized stuff) The threshold seems to help a lot more with "calming" the F70 down than a low gain for me.

Eric, don't be afraid of taking the F70 down into the negative threshold numbers. I've found very, very little loss of depth when running as low as -5...but it can make it extremely stable so you can hear legit targets better. The F70 is a pure powerhouse!

The threshold on the F 70 is a different kind of animal. Normally you would adjust the threshold for a slight hum.Not so with the F 70. Rduce the threshold lower until stable. Hunted a really iron laden site yestrerday. We buried silver there last year for our annual club hunt. Many silver coins still there. I hunted it again yesterday and I did not get a coin until I lowered the threshold to a -9. Use the threshold tro adjust it for stability.....Jack

So in fact.... unless I have a clean area, i should better hunt with the treshold minus...... I live in the Netherlands and rusty pieces of iron everywhere!!!!!!

I will try it in the spot I hunted yesterday and signals drove me crazy.

Thanks, Eric.

First encountered it with Coinstrike used this way...Basically lowering threshold will let you hunt some areas not huntable but watch out as too low in the minus and will cost you depth....Threshold used to be that little buzzing that nulled out over discriminated items but its takes on a new meaning with these Fisher products...

Tried all your tips...

sens down to even 10, treshold from - 3 till -6. No or high disc...

ground grabbed... i did it all. I used the f70 succesfull on a farmfield but now I used it in a part of the forrest that was heavely shelled in WW2 so there must be small fragments everywhere. Anyway, the f70 was a pain in the butt here and I did not like it.

But last week I went to the same spot with my whites classic II and had a great time. Even with sens on the maximum it remained quiet untill I hit a solid target. Disc was set at 9 o'clock. See the picture for my classic II finds that day. Nothing special. Modern currency mostly but also some old small buttons, muskettball and a few 18th century coins.

Of course the f70 is a good detector... but maybe not everywhere.

HH, Eric

Del,

While I never have personally seen what 'exactly' was done during the upgrade, we all know for sure the Iron Memory problem was resolved. You can scroll back to see all the chatter on that topic.

In my opinion, while the F70 was in the shop, it is my belief that the Sensitivity range was enhanced to allow a smooth increase of sensitivity over its entire range. Before the upgrade, the sens wasnt linear for lack of a better word across its entire span. Now, a sens of 1 will not detect out to 8 inches like it used to. It used to be toooooo hot with a low sens setting before. Now its as it should be.

I also feel the Threshold span was enhanced also. Before the upgrade, there was little difference in the threshold settings, NOW, it works as it should.

Seems there were some other changes too, which have slipped my mind.

All the way around, the upgrade, IMO, has enhanced the operation of the F70.

IF your or ANYONE's F70 has not been upgraded, I would suggest it get done asap for two reasons. One) get it done so that you will have a much smoother operating detector and TWO) do it asap before Fisher closes the window of opportunity for getting this upgrade done at no charge.
