Tone question

Sailorman

New member
OK, things are getting better with my E-Trac all the time. After several months I'm getting to know it much better and the settings that seem to work best in my area for what I hunt.

I've been starting to hunt some new areas lately though that have a higher level of mineralization and I was curious about something I'm hearing there. Usually when I hit a coin I get a nice clean even tone and numbers that catch my attention. Once in a while it can still be trash but the ratio is getting better. But on these sites I'm often getting a warbling tone, still high and iffy numbers that bounce a bit when swung from different angles.

Now I know there are many who say dig it all. Well the trash levels in my areas are of a level where that is just not practical. I'm not retired and I have a certain amount of free time and spending it digging 90% trash burns you out quick. If I'm running an open screen with the X-5 coil and sweep slow I can easily run over 4 to 6 bad targets per swing. So the challenge is hearing and seperating the good needle in tha trash haystack. They are there, I've found them! But I've dug some of these and most were junk but now and then a something interesting shows up. Anyone experiencing this? Any other hints that the machine might be giving me on these signals that I'm missing?

My setup is typically deep off, fast on, auto plus three as long as it doesn't dip below 20, sounds smooth or sometimes long (long seems better when the trash is really thick), ground difficult, trash high.

On a good note the X-5 pulled a merc dime out of a hole that had a AA battery about an inch over it and had an old nail laying about 3/8" beside it. That was what I call sifting trash!

Nice on the merc. We will let some of the other folks answer this. But this is good news for me, I'm learning like you !!!

Sailor start using the stock coin program and or andy sabish coin program. Discrimination doesn't hurt the E-Trac much. You will defiantly improve your ratio.

Bart, started there several months ago and have moved on a bit. In the really bad stuff I will have something like Bill_S Park program and switch back and forth between there and a fairly open quick mask.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any input with those weird high warbling tones. The numbers will dance around a bit as I swing from different angle but often in one angle I get good numbers.

The mineralization in one spot is actually corroding the silver and copper. The coins came out THIN down near the water but further up where the minerals were still bad they came out better. One spot in particular is a drying lake that used to be a swimming area WAYYYY back.

You are hearing the rap around effect from a bent rusted nail that's is most of the time. Put your machine in sizing on the pinpoint mode. Then you can tell how big the Target will be. Small Target maybe coin Good luck .
