tone investigation

hi to all,
I'm a sovereign xs-2 owner and it is working very well for me. I just have a question about the tones.
In discrimination mode, i am getting to know the different pitches for different metals.
the tin foil or aluminum tone is very low, and is this the same tone to raw gold or gold rings?
thanks for any help
john

some of the smaller rings will sound like foil or aluminum. some larger ones will be in the zinc penny range. and some will be in the nickle range.

.............................I don't know anyone who can tell the difference of a nickel and a pulltab just by the TONE! IT REALLY HELPS TO HAVE A METER!!.........Also some rings will sound like pulltabs!!.....HH...........JOE

i can tell a big diff from a nickle to a pull tab,the nickle is lower tone and softer than the pull tabs i find. but if its 1/2 a pull tab it will be low like gold or nickle. and those darn blue tabs sound soooo good! i dig the pull tab tone but have found no gold yet?.all the gold iv found comes in the nickle tone.

Gotta tell you, on my recent trip to Destin, I kept hitting what sounded like the "perfect" gold signal, since it is supposed to be low, only to dig some VERY NICE catsup packets!! It was the running joke between my GF and I, " you gotta dig the catsup to get the rings..." Fooled her though, got me a RELISH once!! HH Joe

This happened to me the other day in an old park. They give a raspy low sound VERY similar to gold. If I were on the beach, I would dig every one of those tones. I am going back to that park this afternoon and use full discrimination(per idea from another poster), as to avoid all the junk litter. Hopefully I'll find some goodies.....

the gold rings iv found come in the tone just a little higher than the foil packs of katsup.now the real heavy crusted pull tabs come in right on gold! but clean pull tabs are higher than gold or a nickle.
