Hello all - tomorrow I pick her up! My new Excalibur II 1000. I'm fired up too. I'm gonna set it up ( got a new straight shaft too) and get out to a local lake/beach in a few days. Love to hear from you veterans of this machine on what I should initially set my setting at for the first few hunts to "feel" it out! I know that each beach/ lake is slightly different but I will be exclusively (for now) in fresh water lakes. Any and all advice is so much appreciated. Thanks guys...looking forward to your comments....and my first ring!! Haaaaaa.....
The Excal is a very easy machine to use. I run mine in the disc mode and set the threshold to just audible, discrimination anywhere from 1 to 3 (depending on what trash is in the area), sensitivity as high it will go without causing falsing, and the volume all the way up. I use the same exact settings no matter where I hunt. You're going to love it. Good luck and post up your findings.
GL man. You will enjoy it. BABY it. No one else touches it. No one. Coat wires with silicone spray stuff. I owned mine for 2 years an I am the only one who has ever touched it. LOL. HH. -Joe
Keep pushing the sense as high as possible during your hunt. If the detector is quiet go a little bit higher on the sence.
Even on the beach you have different sections which can have some higher sense then other sections. I'm adjusting my sence all the time during my hunts.
Try to listen for the deep signals in disc mode, these are the ones who give a totally different sound then the shallow signals in the first 8 inch.
Also clean your coil cover after every search. The sand in there can cause fals signals. Try if you can change the headphone for a better one, one that shuts out the outside noises better then the standard headphone.
