toltec II normal???

ryoung67

New member
hello all,
i recently purchased a toltec II and have a few ?'s. The first time i test ran the unit it seemed erratic(even with low sens...different discrim etc.). I ran the unit again a day later in another area and it seemed flawless(meter id'd correctly, and discrim was right on).....then another completely different area, and again it seemed erractic. I have been detecting with all major brands for about 15 years, so I am aware of interference and what not. Also, should I be able to get a threshold sound in discrim mode? I can only get one in all metal mode. Any help will be appreciated......the unit is in A+ condition appearance wise, but i am questioning the electronics.

thanks much folks,

Rich

Rich, you set the threshold in all metal mode. That's the only time you should hear the threshold. In descriminate mode you'll not hear the threshold tone. check batteries and the coil connector as far as the erratic noise.......
Hope this helps

Howdy ryoung

The Toltec ll is a two filter, slow motion, quick recovery rate detector and operates in a silent discrimination mode. It has two threshold based all-metal modes (autotune & normal) .

You have one of Tesoro's best ID detectors. although it is a bit old tech, I still have mine and it's 16 years old and still works flawless. I bought mine new in 1994 for my wife, I still use it some.

I checked the ground balance on mine after I had it for awhile and tweeked it a bit (it was a little too positive) and now it works great. I run my discrimination anywhere from minimum to preset 3

depending on how much trash is present. I run my sensivity from preset 7 to 9 depending on how much trash there is. If there is nothing you can do to tune it........just shoot me PM

Randy

PS:::: there seems to be alot of these Toltecs coming out of the closet lately:cool:

I know Hombre. Wonder where they're all coming from. Makes me kinda want to buy another one as I sold mine years ago. Really liked that machine.

Hi all,

just an update the erratic toltec behaviour. Last night after trying several different adjustments..etc....the meter was still WAY OFF...anyways, i took the meter housing apart and found both the yellow and black wires going to the meter were a little corroded and in fact i barely touched the yellow and it came off at the solder joint. Well after resoldering both leads......its been perfect!! A little over 3 dollars in clad today, and two rings(neither was real, but it meens i'm close!!). As I said in my first post, I have owned many different high dollar units in the past, but this toltec is a winner in my book. This unit is one of two detectors i have had that is just deadly on nickels...and that to me is a real good sign. Also, I knew Tesoro was decent in trash areas, but even with the stock 8" coil I was grabbing clad right next to junk....i'm impressed to say the least. Thanks again for the posts to my questions, I appreciate the opinions and help.
