Toltec 100

Bill in Texas

New member
Well I have not stuck my nose in here for a while now, so here goes. A vaquero is my main hunting machine, but I like to hunt with a older Tesoro once in a while. A while back I picked up a Toltec 100. It was running OK, but just not up to what I thought it should, so I sent it in for a tune up. Tesoro did a great job on it and it came back in about 10 days. Yesterday I took it for my first hunt since I got it back. I hunted about about a hour and a half at a local park and found the usual coins and junk, but I also found something nice for the first hunt since I got it back. I found a real thin 14k Gold chain with a real small drop on it. Hey the old 100 will still nail them, its just a little heavy to lug around. Bill in Texas

Those olde models are fun to hunt with, and they can keep up with the big guns too! I've had a Toltec ll since 1994, and just recently picked up a Toltec 100. Mine had just been to arizona for a check up, and it hits hard on coins. My first hunt with it I scored a 1880 IH in an old torn down house corner lot at about 6 inches deep. It was a good solid signal in the screw cap zone on the meter. Good luck with the Toltec 100..........it's a great machine............Hombre

Now you went & did it Bill in Texas, you just brought back memories about when I had my Toltec II. I could kick myself you know where for selling it. Man that was a great machine, loved that analog id meter, pretty dog gone accurate. Know I will cry myself to sleep thinking about my long lost Toltec. Steve.

I have a Inca that I use once in a while also. It was my first Tesoro and I found a ton of stuff with it in the late 80's with it. I got so used to it I could call the coin size out when I found one. I found a bunch of silver with it. For just coin shooting only today, I like my wife's Compadre.

I can see from reading you posts that you have an Inca, this detector dates back to 1983. I was wondering whether you had ever sent it back to Tesoro for for repair or tune up? Rest easy, because they did a complete tune up on my Inca. IT's amazing that they will repair old machines like these, even more amazing is that they still have parts to service these vintage detectors. I found out with my Inca that it air tests deeper than any machine that I have ever used, included in this test was with a CZ5, and the Inca bested it by an inch or so in air tests.

I see that the wonder from down under has quit servicing some of its older models. I think this is a trend among some metal detector manufacturers. In this throw away society, any thing over 5 years old should just be tossed out. I have had several digital detectors, and did not like them at all, the analog Tesoros and select White's and Los Banos Fishers work for me better. I don't need a computer chipped synthesized audio telling me what is in the ground, I much prefer the simple analog audio of these older machines, may they live on forever!........Hombre

The Inca has been factory tuned also. It is still a great machine today. How many machines that old can you say that about?

Bill..................I can think of maybe one, that's the same age, and it is a Tesoro too,.................. Silver Sabre!
