detector for typical urban Coin Hunting. That's the benefit of having the TID display anyway, but it has its limitations.
For some of us who are aged and achy, the top-heavy configuration is kind of a burden.
The display is smallish and difficult for some to see, and it isn't the most effective performer in a variety of challenging sites.
The biggest weakness I found is that the Toltec 100, introduced about December of 1987, used the older, more limited lower-end Discriminate adjustment range. In short, it had more rejection at the minimum setting than an avid detectorist wants as that adds to target masking. The Bandido, introduced in March of 1990, brought us the ED-120 Discriminate circuitry which is much better than the earlier, more limiting Disc. designs.
I have a good friend who bought the Toltec 100 when it first came out and he still has and uses it, but I had one and didn't care for it. I liked the Toltec II much better for balance, and especially because it also has the ED-120 Disc. circuitry.
If it's just for typical Coin Hunting, and if you really want to give it a try, go for it and report back on the forum.
