Cool candle or lantern wick is in the bottom?

The dreaded NCV tokens get me pumped then let down every time 😩. You sure made up for it with the nice relic!

I'm spitballing but would guess 1890s-early 1900s when household electricity was more widely used. I did find an interesting web link on the subject: (my phone screen shot cut it short but the last word is lamp)
