I thought someone put a penny on a train track but after looking closer it isn't. I'm in the process of cleaning it up, a lot of heated hydrogen peroxide soaks and swabbed with q tips to remove the corrosion. It's slowly getting there.

Those are always interesting to find bibelot. Over the years I've found several.

I'm in Michigan, and have found them from several points of interest in other states. One, from the Buffalo Erie County Histirical society, the neighborhood of the origin of your find.

It's a momento of the places people have traveled to, and always a nice find!

Goes by different names, Elongated coin, Pressed Penny, Smashed Penny.
Disney has machines that make them all over their parks and they are also found near many other attractions and tourist traps.
I have found a few myself, love these things.
Can be made with zincolns but the preferred coin by collectors is a copper cent.

Exactly Revier ...... That type machine was heavily placed in many public avenues in the 50's and 60's too....

I like digging those up. ^_^
Found two in the past couple months. You'll find those souvineer pennies everywhere you find tourists, and a few spots you never expect to see 'em.
