.... neighborhood kids were all out front of his house, standing on the sidewalk, staring up at his window like the masses of people in St Peters Square awaiting the Pope.

All were encouraging him to step out onto the balcony ... "Art, Art, Art" ... they were heard to yell. "We are encouraging you to shed some needless pounds."
