hello all, i have some questions regarding the late and great mel fisher. we all know he found the spanish ship atocha off the florida keys back in the eighties, and became a zillionaire. i heard long ago that he also searched for the legendary beale treasure, supposedly buried near bedford, va. in the 1820's by rigging up a huge magnetometer to a helicopter and sweeping the land with it. a great idea, but is it true? i've tried to find details about this venture, but have come up empty handed. it seems information is scarce. does anybody know about it? i sure would appreciate any info you might have.

i have been to the area several times and know it is studded with old caves and iron mines. today's value of the treasure itself is estimated to be in the 35 - 40 million dollar range, and is supposed to be about the size of a small car. one of the three codes [the contents of the treasure] was deciphered in the 1800's using the declaration of independence as the key. thanks for your help, and hh!
