Todays short beach hunt.

I took Beachcombers advice and have been experimenting hunting with iron mask off this past week at some old parks and today at the beach. The beaches like the ground around here are very mineralized and hunting with the iron mask off in these conditions turns the GT into a smoother running detector with less nulling from the minerals and less falsing. Deep targets sound better and I can run sensitivity a bit higher and still maintain a steady threshold. I used the S-8 coil today and these finds were found under the fishing platform at the end of the dock that I've beat to death the last few hunts with the 10 inch coil and my regular settings. Most of the finds were 12 inches and deeper.

Ron here is a pic. from my last four hunts around the same dock. The coins and stuff just keep coming. I hunted about 1 1/2 hours today and probably never moved outside a 30X30 ft. area.

Good job. So I'm curious to hear more about running Iron Mask OFF. Seems it might be a good thing to do on the beach were iron masking in most areas wouldn't be as much of a problem. If you can indeed run the sensitivity a little higher without as much falsing I wonder if that translates into more depth. Have you tried flipping between IM ON & OFF on a deep fringe target to see which gives the best response? Minelab says IM ON gives just a bit more depth but I'd much rather hear in field tests of this. I always keep it ON to give maximum unmasking ability and don't find this machine to be overly loud or noisy, no more so than other machines I've owned. But then again, I'm used to running in discrimination on my QXT Pro but with no targets discriminated out, including iron and the ground (hot rock) zones, so hearing it all has never been a big issue for me when coin hunting. Only when I'm ring hunting in a real trashy area will I prefer to silence most of the tabs using the notch and just enough discrimination to kill most small bits of foil and aluminum.
