Today's MTRB(Mixed Target Response Bulletin).

Last evening I was using the X70 with the LF coil to see if I could extract any high conductivity deepies out of a site I have covered extensively. I did locate one deep quarter in the 10+ inch deep category , but also was able to pull a quarter at about 2 inches deep with the foil wad directly below at about 3 inches.

Today I hit a public beach using the X70 HF, that I had never visited before, and was in for quite a time. Firstly this beach was sterilized, somebody(ies) worked very hard and often to clean this beach. I hunted for 20 minutes in the shallow water finding no coins, not even zincs, no pulltabs, and no foil.

The only target responses were very broken up, the majority hitting as iron. I then located a Jeff next to several iron targets, obviously it had been missed due to masking. So digging iffy's(mixed target response) was to be the modus operandi for this site. About 30 minutes later, I conjured up:devil: this little 14K beauty in very close proximity ~5" to the pictured rusty screw.

The rest of the time I spent digging very iffy targets, steel washers, vertical pulltabs etc., but did manage a silver toe ring also.

Next it was on to beach #2. This is another public beach that I took Barnacle Jr. to on a very drizzly day last fall and we hunted the dry sand. There was nary a target to be found, but today on a lark, since I had my boots with me, I stopped by to try the water. The water at 8 inches and deeper is filled with targets, pulltabs, 22 cal cartridges, foil, and coins galore. Since this is not an old site, I have no interest in the coins and set the X70 to pattern #2 where I have (-)2 to +26 accepted. I dug 22 cal cartridges one after the other along with some foil discs and lead sinkers. The gold did not appear at this site, but is huge and will take weeks to clean out. The good/bad news are the 22 cal cartridges, a great pre-cursor to gold left in the sand.

Nice to see the X-70 was able to read that coin on top of the foil. What kind of ID did you get with the ring and the screw?

Looks like that second spot will keep you busy for awhile! Those pesky 22 cartridges are a mixed blessing! HH Randy

Hello Randy,

The response was about as good as can be expected. I was in disc pattern #2 (-)2 to 26 accepted when a 10>12 popped up within a very small coil movement area. I went to AM and found negative & high coin bounce all around the one little 10>12 sweet spot. When I air tested the ring it indeed is a 10>12, let's call it an 11. And the quarter was very much the same, a 42 in the midst of what I will call "the chaos", a large ratty piece of foil can create.

In the second location I have no idea what the cartridges are doing there. The site is a modern one with no known previous habitation. On the other hand there are lakes nearby with a history of youth camps where millions of rounds have been fired. Not so much anymore as it it politically incorrect, archery is still OK, as I guess putting a bolt through someone is a less "disturbing" thought. It's just sad, as I can remember how proud I was to receive my NRA marksmanship awards as I became more proficient.

and congrats on the gold.

I (finally) got a chance to stop by a Lake Michigan beach here, but like your second site it is pretty well sterilized. Other than a few deep iron hits and one really deep aluminum nugget there were few signals to be heard. Hope to give the 70 a try at some more favorable locations soon.
