Today's Indian head cent trifecta

Ed (Upstate NY)

Active member
Was beginning to think all the Indian head cents were gone from our hunted out parks since I haven't dug one in about a month !! Broke the slump this morning with 3 nice ones. 1903, 1905 and 1899. All with great liberty detail and not too much copper rot on them. Been a decent year for Indian head cents with about 50 added to the collection. Weather looks good tomorrow so I'll be at it again in the morning.

Nice handful of Indians Ed. They came out looking good.

I put about 1/2 inch of hydrogen peroxide in a small plastic bowl and heat in microwave for 30 seconds. Then I drop the cents in the bowl. They start to bubble right away. I usually leave in for a half hour or so and then brush them lightly with an old toothbrush to remove any loose dirt. Repeat a couple time until I'm satisfied with the results. Then I rinse with soap and water and buff with a soft cloth. With the heavily encrusted green slime ones, nothing will clean them. I was just lucky these came from good dry ground.
