Today I went to a Park that is near an Spanish American War camp and I found a ladies 18 k ring, missing the center stone.
I was checking around the big oak trees and I got a 00-31 reading on my Explorer SE and I thought silver quarter 6 in down.
I dug down and I found this black bar about 2 1/4" long and 1/4' thick. One end is paint dark green. No idea what it is. I found some old clad and had to leave.

Any guesses on the bar?

It might have been a magnet? I remember when I was a kid they had them painted green on one end and red on the other. Nice finds.
 
It is magnetic, but not a magnet. Since you said that about the green and red, I remember that also.... Just wished I kept all those silver coins when I was growing up.
