Today's hunt

Didn't find much today but I enjoyed getting out to hunt. Managed to find a couple more Smiths, a Burnside, an Enfield and a minnie. Can't complain, I've had worse days! The two items at bottom of pic got me stumped. One on the left looks like some kind of harness strap buckel. The one on the right is real heavy and made of solid brass. Had me thinking when it first came up out of the ground, seeing the green patina and the shape, kinda looked like one of them "tongue in wreath" sword belt plates. I know it's not that but I'm not sure what it is, any ideas?

Steve: if you rotate the picture of the relic in the lower right to the left by 90 degrees (put ball at bottom) it could be an Ordnance Corp pin (flying bomb insignia) worn on hat or uniform. See Crouch p.156 Number 5. There are plenty examples in other books. This pin comes in several shapes and sizes. Are you around anything where that would make sense? I'm working on your other whatis also.

All I can tell ya is it's very heavy for it's size and looks to be made of solid brass. Found about 6 or 7" deep, same depth as the bullets I found and in same area. At least it'll be a good conversation piece. As far as I could see, there is no writing or figure on this piece.

Thanks Dave for the reply. There were I believe 6 cannons involved in this battle but to say that it might be a pin worn on hat or uniform, I really don't think so. It weigh's alittle over 1/4 lb. Heavy little sucker for it's size, he he! I'm going to have some club members look at it tonight. I want to clean it up, I think there might be something written underneath all that black and green crust. But I won't clean it until someone else checks it out. Thanks Dave
