Hooked up with my buddy Chris and we swung for 5 hours this forenoon and both of us dug some nice keepers. He set the tone fairly early with an old spur from deeper then his Garrett pin pointer. About 10." He is cleaning on it now, but the spot had Civil war activity. Right at the end of our hunt he hit a silver 1912 Barber dime and also had numerous wheat cents. He also swings a A T Pro.
Besides the 2 Mercury dimes, 41d and 44, I also dug 8 wheat cents. The oldest being a 27 and 36. The rest were 40's and 50's. The highlight for me, though, was recovering a 1865 2 cent piece. It is toast, but since it is my first 2 center, I'll take it. Chris watched me dig it from about 3" deep and I thought I saw the shield and he thought he saw a 2. In my excitement, I forgot to take a fresh from the ground camera shot. After a hot peroxide bath the 1865 actually shows up decently. Now, we will see what tomorrow brings. HH jim tn
