Today's hunt (first of 2015) was a fantastic start.

Today was a very warm day here in the mid 40s and the sun was shining. I had plans on going grocery shopping then hunting tomorrow but, after talking to my hunting buddy he suggested we go today in case it rains tomorrow.
We tested the ground before going and it was soft as long as you where not in shaded areas which was still rock hard on top so we where ready.
We decided to go back to an old standby place I refer to as the 100 acre woods.
My first decent old coin turned out to be a 19S wheat penny which had a real nice dark green tone in great shape.
A little while later my friend waved and I put down my detector to see what he had found. He was thrilled as he just dug a nice 1865 IH. It was about 7-8" deep he said.
He was bothered by a nic in it on the edge but, its so small/miniscule its still an awesome IH in my book.
I was very thrilled for him to have found such a nice old coin for his first hunt of 2015. I never asked but, might have been his first coin dug although I bet there was clad beforehand.
I started hunting again from where he was at heading towards a giant old tree and about 25 feet from it got a real faint bouncy signal. It skipped across the top and never went to the far right and showed deep.
I took a massive plug and did not hear anything until I removed a little more dirt then that high tone rang through the X1.
I waved him over prior to completely digging it and in the removed dirt I saw the back so, we knew it was either a seated or barber with an O mint mark. The front still was covered by a dirt clump.
Upon removing the remaining dirt it was a 1899 Barber Dime.
I had no idea it would be such a good find till we got back to my truck and checked the coin charts. Its got a clear liberty so, I would say its its in the VF category.
I somehow lost my 19S wheat as I think I missed my pouch or it fell out of my pocket as I removed my keys several times. Oh well, like I told my buddy now we know the woods still hold more coins and we even know what year. LOL
It was such a great day to finally get out and shake off the dust and have some fun. Weather permitting we are headed out again tomorrow.
Thanks for looking and Happy Hunting Everyone.
Mike

Nice hunt mikeO excellent coins for the start of 2015

Very nice finds. I've been out a couple times this month, had to hunt on south-facing hills. Good start to the year, congrats.

Nice hunt Mike. Must have been great to get out! My only day to get out usually is Sunday and the record has been bad in Ct between rain or frozen temps.
I'm getting antsy because it's been almost a month since I did any swingin'. I'm getting desperate enough to start hitting the shore but I want to hit the flats at low tide. The tide schedule hasn't been in my favor. lol
Congrats, Bruce

Hey thanks for the comments everyone.
Tony, how you been? Have not seen you posting in quite a while. We are frozen up here now so, no more hunting until another thaw. Bet you and Ed are ready to get hunting eah.
I sure hope spring arrives quickly.
