Todays Hunt and a Mission

Well, I started out hunting our local Elementary School playground here in Solvay, NY...I was out for about an hour when I was approached by a young man who wanted me to look for his Grandmother's lost gold ring...I never did learn if it was a Wedding band, or if it had Diamonds or whatever...I only spoke to her grandchildren...I searched for about an hour in the locations they told me she had been around a baseball field...I did not turn up the ring...It had only been lost about a half hour before I started searching, so it should have been right on the surface...It was about 5pm and the sun was low and blazing...That ring should have stood out like the headlamp on a Honda....I took down thier number and plan to call and speak to the GrandMother directly tomorrow. Hopefully, she can meet me at the field and we can search again....She had been playing catch with her GrandDaughter before a softball game...My $10.00 IS THAT THE RING FELL OFF INSIDE HER GLOVE...We shall see...
Here are my finds for the day.
If that 1972 penny is a double strike on the reverse...It is worth $175.00...If not...It is worth 2 cents...I do not even know what the double strike would look like...

1986P Quarter, 1991P Quarter, 2003 Missouri-Quarter, 1987P Dime, 1994P Dime, 1995P Dime, 2003P Dime, 1964D Cent, 1969D Cent, 1972??? Cent, 1976 Cent, 1977 Cent, 1981 Cent, 1981 Cent

Any help on the 1972 is welcomed...

Good haul and very nice of you offering help on the ring, i hope you are able to find it for her. The double strike would be noticeable in the lettering on the reverse, giving it a very trippy tracer affect, or would look normal except for what appears to be a second cent growing out the side like a tumor. There are a few different variations that fall under a "double strike".

way to go, bhlandstar. nice haul there. like jj said, you'll see doubling on the letters, front or back. i hope you find the ring, that would be cool. hh,

I would have actually died to find one that WAS double struck...Just imagine...1 cent to 175 bucks...NICE profit...lol
The ring is going to have to wait till I get the LandStar back from First Texas...Hopefully by next Friday...Hope the field does not get mowed before then...

good finds on the coins. i love hittin the schools. good luck with the ring but i bet your right it probably is in the glove.

Thanks fooserPaul for the pics. I wasn't aware of the double strike effect. With all the clad I've found I guess I better go back and look through them again.

Well, the field got mowed...I just hope that ring was heavy enough to stay on the ground...I went over most of the areas the girl said she was, and I found nothing...I was digging every signal I got, no matter if it was iron/foil, or pull tab or zinc....I will try once more when the Land Star comes back home, but after that, I will find it only if I am out on that field and happen to come across it by accident....I think this will teach Granny not to lend an expensive gold ring to a teenager...
