Todays hunt and 18" hole with stuff in it

So on the way back to the truck (and I use that term loosely took me another hour to get back to the truck), I hit a good signal and out pops a token. This was my first good signal, I mean target, in about a 1 hour hunt. 10 feet later the Imperial Union thingy pops out. Then nothing for 100 yards.

Well nearly back to the truck I crossed an area I have gotten a couple coins before, when I see a hole 18"sq. I thought to myself that I couldn't have left that. I didn't. The guy that dug there had come thru behind me. He hit a patch I had not yet. Well now I swept the hole and it had a Nickel and two Memorials in it. I guess I had best go back and sweep his other holes back over near where I found that Barber last week.

[attachment 161455 bar.JPG] I wonder what 5c would have bought at the bar? A whole beer?

Any Idea what Andrew Andersons was? I think it must have been some kind of bar or casino or hotel?
I would also like to know what the Imperial Union thingy is used for.
Any Ideas?

Jeff

Jeff,

Sorry I cant help you with id-ing those.
...but lovely old finds - I love that 5c token and Union buckle ( would it be a trousers braces strap buckle/stopper ? ).
Congratulations, great stuff. :)

Someone on the Christian forum said its for suspenders.

Hi

Very interesting finds I have no idea who Andrew Anderson was but the link bellow might provide a starting point.

cheers Dave

Thanks Dave,
I suspect that this was a hotel or a motel or perhaps a general store with a bar, or some other similar establishment. But the world may ever know.

Jeff

that token may very well be a rare token, I have seen bar/saloon tokens bring good $$ on ebay. Have you checked richards token database?

No I did not know Richard had a token data base, or who Richard is for that matter. I'll google it after work.

here ya go, biggest online token resource I know of:
http://tokencatalog.com/index.php

that token is in great shape and nice find

Thanks guys

I sent an email to a small town (pop 90) in south central WA. There is another token bearing the Andrew Anderson name listed in richards catalog, from Bickleton WA. There was no image so I can not compare the two. The other is good for 5c in trade. I hope some one there knows of the business and can give me a bit of history.

Thanks G4E

no idea on the token but the Imperial Union thing is for the straps on bib overalls. might be for suspenders but i believe for bibs.
