Today's Hunt. 1942 Wheat Penny

Hello Everyone,

I was able to spend a few hours detecting today with my Silver uMax. I went to a park and a fair grounds. I have attached a picture of my finds, but there is nothing too exciting. 5 dimes, 12 pennies including a 1942 wheat(my first), 3 nickels, and 1 quarter. I also found a couple junk rings, a bullet, a "Little Britches" rodeo pin and a zipper pull. Anyways, I have hunted this particular park quite a few times, and it has given up some older coins. A couple months ago I found a 1942 Silver nickel at this park, and today I found a 1942 wheat penny, a 1967 dime, and a 1964 penny, but I still havn't been able to find a silver coin. It doesn't seem like this park is hunted out because I keep finding older coins, but I am a little puzzled as to why there doen't seem to be any silver. I do occasionally see someone detecting at this park, but apparently they aren't finding these coins. I don't see how anyone could miss them, on my Silver Umax I have to turn the sensativity down to 1 just to get a small enough target to pinpoint because the signal is so big on coins. Anyways, I will keep searching for that elusive silver coin.

- - well, the stuff we find while we wait for our fantasies to be fulfilled!

That is a good hunt! The silver will come when you least expect it. Keep at it and I am sure you will find one, Beale.

Looks good to me - and I'm sure it's just a matter of finding the silver - that Silver uMax is capable of doing the job and is a nice machine as far as I'm concerned (I have one). And it will get other goodies to boot. Just have to get it over that silver.

If your finding wheat cents keep going, there should be silver there. Maybe slow down a bit, with my I.D. machine (Cortes) I pause and very deliberately check any sound that appeals to me by listening to the sound, looking at the Bar graph and the I.D. number then by weighing the info in my head decide to dig or not. To find stuff other people have missed you have to be more deliberate and dig some of those "iffy" signals. I have found the rough rule of thumb (for me at least, its been fairly accurate over the long haul) to be 10 wheats per silver dime give or take a couple either way. occasionally a double then a dry spell but it usually averages out. Quarters are close also to this rule of thumb being 2-3 silver dimes per silver quarter (but right now I'm at a 2 Quarter deficit)
