This afternoon I received a call from a lifeguard. He told me he had just met with a very distressed newlywed couple and that the groom was speechless as he has lost his wedding band in the ocean while swimming. It was a familiar situation as i have returned nearly 200 rings under similar conditions. I was busy but not so busy that I did not do my usual and stop work, grab my array of detectors and head for the beach. The surf was up and I put on 45 lbs of lead to keep me anchored to the bottom as best i could. i only had a vague idea of where the ring was as they had swam all over the bay. The couple had gone back to their hotel so the lifeguard gave me the general area. It took 3 hours of working a grid pattern when the desired signal came. The ring was a heavy size 13 and had sunk deeply into the churned up sand bottom in it's 5 hour adventure on the sea bottom but there it was exactly as described. size 13, 14K white gold with 3 sparkling diamonds.
I just got off the phone with the loosing groom. let me tell you, he is one happy guy right now. aren't we fortunate to be able to bring a little happiness to strangers. What a great hobby. I will try to post one of my signature photographs tomorrow of this return after we meet. Today all I have is a photo of the adventurous ring.
