Todays finds

My neighbour told me about a spot on the river about 10 minutes from my home where people used to picnic and swim so I went down for a couple of hours this morning. The top section has been pushed around to make a track down to the water but the bottom portion looks pretty original. My finds were :-
1 x Florin 1957
1 x shilling 1956
2 x sixpences 1958 and 1962
3 x threepences 1910, 1916, 1944
1 x penny 1917
1 x halfpenny 1919
There's still a fair bit left to do so I'll be going back next week.
Thanks for looking......Ken.:ausflag:

Nice stuff Ken. That's a good idea, about the picnic area. That makes a lot of sense that people could lose stuff in a picnic setting. Good thinking.

very nice photos there! I notice the old pine trees, how old would you say they were? The pines trees on the northern goldfields in Victoria often signify old house or building sites. It's what I look for when I'm exploring the bush. I reckon there'll be more coins Kens buried, and possibly a few relics too. Is that hall used as a hire hall for functions. It's very nice. Ken, I wish I knew how you got such great pictures of your stuff. It's amazing how good the clairty and lighting is on those pictures. Do you use a digital camera or something and down load it first to your computer? I'm really amazed at how good they look. Marc Trainor.

The site is supposd to date from the about the 1890's so I suppose the trees are from about then, although I haven't found any coins prior to 1910. The site is now owned by a church group whose members still go down there and I think they must still use the hall as I've found a couple of $1 and $2 coins. Like you I'm always interested when I see those old pine trees or old fruit trees as it usually signifies some type of building nearby.....Ken.

mate, to tell you the truth, I don't know much about cameras or computors. I have a 4 megapixel digital camera with a macro mode for close shots. I just take a few shots with differing light, download them to the computor and then pick the best one. One of the great advantages of a digital camera, delete the shots you don't like. All the best..........Ken.:ausflag:

Thanks Ken. Well you may not know much about photography, but you sure take good pictures in my opinion. I guess I need to get one of those "bad boys", myself and then try and find something really interesting to shoot. Thanks again, and keep sending those pictures. They're great.
