of the type of rounded point. It may be a 30-30 because they have the rounded nose and the exposed rim at the rear of the brass cartridge case, like the one in your picture. Kelley (Texas) :)

Looks like a .303 Enfield cartridge, WWI era. WWI era bullets often had rounded tips, while by the WWII era bullets generally were of the pointed "spitzer" variety.

Also, .303 Enfield was a rimmed cartridge like the one in the pic, and it has the same tell-tale slender taper and shallow shoulder. Looks like a version of the MkII Lee Enfield round where the bullet has been pushed back into the case a bit or a smaller grained bullet. This was a popular rifle of the post WWI era for sportsmen, and is still a produced round:

Note pic near the bottom with a round that looks like yours second from left.

There should be a headstamp on the bottom with characters or words, can you make them out? Don't clean with hard tools as primers are still able to be viable even after all this time, though unlikely, but use a brass brush. If you can see the info on the headstamp I can probably tell you where and who made the cartridge, possibly even the date if it is a military round.
