Got out for about an hour an a half and hit a old spot I hit last year as the place I wanted to goto.
The people were not home! So instead of just going home I went back there to see what I missed :)
Day wasn't a loss

Nice find there Mike...........:) Since I have never found one of those large cents as well as a seated coin, could you give me an idea as to what it sounded like or what the digital reading may have been? Thanks. HH.

Eddie

I don't look at the digital reading as coins at different depths have different digital read outs and there is no telling how many coins I passed early on doing that! Not to mention if there is any trash around the coin then you will get a different read out also! So many things can change that readout your better off going TONE ONLY!!!!!!!! Trust me once you learn them you will be glad you took the time to laern them!

Everytime you dig an object! Listen to the tone! I mean listen to the tone! Was it smooth? or rough? Was it short or was it long. Did it sound like a flute?

As far as the tone that's something that can't be discribed. I wish I could!

Thanks Mike. I didn't mean to put you on the spot. Maybe what I should have asked you, was the sound on that large cent high like in silver or a low tone? I am really trying to learn what the sounds are telling me, but sometimes it can be a little confusing and that's when I will check the digital reading to see what the number might be and I also will check it in iron mask to see where the cursor is at on the screen. I do realize that it's not the best way to try and figure out what the heck it might be that's in the ground, but most of the time it is pretty accurate. Thanks again............:) HH.

Eddie

I use the tones about 90% of the time and then I find myself looking at the curson on the screen for those iffy targets! To answer your question it was a higher tone! Nothing like gold or nickle. To me the tone was higher than an indian head but a little lower then silver if that helps yea.

Mike

Thanks Mike. That definitely helps, but the chances of finding a large cent here in Washington state are probably slim to none. Next week when I go over to a old picnic grind my luck will change. At least maybe I will get my first seated coin........:) Thanks again Mike.

Eddie

Well good luck and I hope you find that seated dime!!! If you ever get around the wilmington Ohio area give me a call! I can take yea to a few good spots :)

That's what I was hoping to find today :(

Thanks again Mike. When I retire I will definitely take another trip back east and I may just take you up on that offer to get together with you and have you show me how to pluck one of those large cents out of the ground and maybe even a seated coin..........:) Send me your home information and phone number, email and etc in a private message and I will keep it in my list of things to do when I finally retire.........:) HH.
