hello, i have been on this forum for a while but never posted before. this is my 2nd season with the mxt and quite honestly i wasn`nt sure i was gonna stick with it. i didnt do so well with it last year. but ive learned a lot reading the posts on this forum. i am not new to detecting, i started about 95 with a radio shack 3 tone model. since then ive have a couple of garrets, a fisher, a whites silver eagle and a 6000 di pro, and a xlt. i sure dont know it all, but i am getting the hang of this mxt. ( by the way whites is the only detector i will ever buy, they just feel solid.) anyway , i learned a lot reading your posts, and i recently got the 5.3 and it`s paying off allready. this morning i found a about 1.50 in change and a nice large 14 kt wedding band in a spot ive been over numerous times before. there is more there, it` so trashy. the smaller coil made the difference.. so hats off to you! thanks . jeff, rockford area

Jeff, a couple of summers ago I picked up a slightly used MXT that came with the standard 9.5 and a 5.3 and 4X6 both with extra poles. My first outing was at a local park that is very trashy. After a few minutes with the 9.5 I was really discouraged. Went to put on the 5.3 and found I had only brought the 4X6 so I installed it. Man what a difference. I was able to move through the trash and single out goodies from junk and had a pretty good hunt. I have since used the 5.3 and like it as well. Anyway, when I first began detecting I had the notion that bigger is better, right? Since then I've discovered for most of my detecting and especially coin shooting that I do noticeably better with the smaller coils. For what it's worth, on several other detectors that the stock coil is in the 8" range I've been happier with that than the 9.5 - 10" size that is often the "standard".

You've no doubt seen many of the posts favoring the 6X10. I added one of them after I'd had the MXT for a while and found it handles trashy areas better than the 9.5 and now use it at least 80% of the time. Hope this is useful.
