My buddy and I headed over to the old picnic grove this morning for some coin hunting. We certainly picked a hot day to be out...95 degrees with this nice Illinois humidity made the heat index 115 degrees.....
We hunted in the shade of the big oak trees as much as possible and kept hydrated with plenty of ice water so it wasn't too bad out there. If you hunt in these temps make sure you drink plenty of water and take a break once in a while cause heat stroke can sneek up on you without you realizing it and it can be deadly, especially for us old farts....lol.
My buddy was swinging a Fisher 1236x-2 and ended up with 1 coin... a nice 1940 mercury dime. The only silver found today....
Today was nickel day for me.... I found 4 V nickels, 1896, 1898,1900, and 1905. Also found 1 indian head penny....1899. I also found a cool little metal animal that looks like a sheep or a calf....can't really tell what it is. Dug an unfired small caliber lead ball with the sprue still on it...looks to be a .32 or
.36 caliber ball. The Vaquero hit this tiny lead ball and some small brass rivets hard at about 6 inches. It amazes me how well it does on tiny targets....and it hits them hard.
Tesoro made one helluva detector when they made the Vaquero. I'm totally impressed with its depth and discrimination capabilities. Ya just can't beat it for the money. HH........
