The arm cup broke in two on my MXT while out in the field.I had an XLT for 5 years and I had to replace the arm cup 3 times on it before I made my own out of pipe. Does any one else have this problem with the cup.H/H JOE in MD

Not for real sure what the Arm Cup that you mention is. If you mean the Cup that your arm rests in, all that I've seen are a formed metal half sleeve. That would be pretty hard to break.
Maybe some of the earlier MXT cups were made of plastic???
I hunt with a guy sometimes that's unusually abusive and careless w/his detector (and everything else he owns too). He continully "smacks" the coil/s into anything and everything that gets in the way. He's broken the plastic bolts and 3-4 lower fiber rod extensions where the bolt goes through.
He now uses a steel bolt in its place. He continues to break the rods and complain that they aren't strong enough...
It's just a matter of time until he breaks the coil or the attachment ears on it.
The 9.5" coil he uses looks like a well used and abused frisbe.

Joe, I have broke one on my MXT. Have had it since they frist came out with the machine. Tim

Metal fatigue. I have broken 4 arm cups on my new Surf Pi Pro in 2004. Seems to be lighter metal than the one on my old surf Pi which never broke in 7 years of heavy daily use. The replacement cups from Whites look just the same as the one on my MXT so I always will keep a spare handy.

How high does he keep his Disc setting to keep from signaling on that bolt?

He doesn't REALLY use a steel bolt, that was meant to be kind of a joke... To keep from breaking things, he'd need more than just a steel bolt...
Maybe I've been lucky. But as yet, I've not had anything break on mine (other than batteries). Actually, they don't break either, they just kind of roll over and die!

That's why I have a stainless steel one from ebay on my MXT. Cost about 20/25 bucks. Works great.

if you use your detector alot these cups will wear out. They are just thin sheet metal.
