For those of you that sell your precious metals finds, Here are a couple of very informative links for you. First one is a good one to know what the scrap value of your precious metals is. All you need is a gram scale to get an accurate idea on what your finds are valued at in scrap. A scale can be bought on feebay for less than 15.00 including shipping. What is nice about this site is the spot value of your metal is automatically put in.

Two other sites that are good for coins follow. Again the spot value for silver is there and all you need is to plug in your coins. The first one is American, the second is Canadian.

These tools will give you a scrap listing. Selling some of your items will of course give you a lot more than scrap.

This Artcarved 14K ring I sold on the auction site for over double scrap

This Tiffany & Co ring I also sold for a lot more than scrap

Research your finds. Make sure if your going to scrap that the coin or ring is only worth scrap value. Scrapping a 1916D dime or 1926S dime and a few others is not the best move! Some people have the luxury of being able to keep all their finds and that's wonderful. I pay for my batteries, my gas for my boat and truck and other incidentals when out in the summer with the gold and silver I find. The most important part of our hobby is to enjoy what you are doing and be active.

In our hobby education is important to know that if you need to sell something, you will get the most you can for all the time you put into finding it. I hope these tools can be used to your advantage.

This Summer my scrap in silver coins would have been around $500 one of those coins in numismatics was worth $400.Didn't sell any but justified buying a second detector

Scuba i got a class ring stamped jostens arg 3.8 grams i cant find the owner of this ring i keep ending at a dead end can you tell me the value of this i guess the arg stands for silver and palladium thanks

A dead end on a Josten's ring? Have you contacted them? They have helped me in the past. Anyway I have NO idea what metals for sure are in that ring and how much of which one. They say arg stands for silver and palladium but I don't know if that is gospel. I would email Jonston's and see what they say about the owner or the metal combination. Palladium closed today at 740.00 an oz. So if it was solid paladium it would be worth around 82.00. However the stone weighs something and so does the silver.

I hope this helps a bit. Let us know if you contact them.

I found this on another site: (Argentum = Copper, Nickel, Tin) If that is the case its like Celestrium, Lustrium, fancy names for junk. The latter two are stainless steel.

Scuba i havent e mailed them so i will try that i was in touch with the school but it to is a dead end but this ring has got me trying to do some brain picking and well i read about all your post and see you have alot of knowledge so when i saw your tool post i was thinking i would pick your brain thanks

Some schools don't want to help. Other ideas, Call the school back ask for the librarian. They like to help. Some papers in some communities have free lost and found adds. Put it in there. List it on Craigs List in lost and found. Maybe someone with a yearbook for that year will find the initials for you. Once you have a name you can try http://www.zabasearch.com/ See if the name comes up in your state. If it was an old gold ring I would see if the local paper would do a story on it. That has also worked for me. I have returned over 35 gold class rings and 2 sterling ID bracelets. Its been quite rewarding.

The last CL ring i returned was a Josten(2009)...It was Jostens that called the owner and relayed my info to them. They can help out if the ring is not too old...Jostens in U.S. 1-800-854-7464

Scuba,
