Got out for a while today with Joe and James to do some hunting in Virginia. Managed a NY cuff face, GS Eagle Coat, and some other goodies :) Anyone know what the tapered piece of brass is on the lower left??? Of course, the best find of the day was the plate :biggrin: . It still had some leather on the back, but it disinegrated while I was cleaning it :(

Things just keep going your way Mike, and it is about time they did. This is proof that if you put your time in you will be rewarded. I can see the pitting on the plate from the fire but its still a beauty, and no shovel marks. LOL It the brass piece lower right hollow?

I made sure I missed this one John :lol: :lol: :lol: It was pretty neat seeing bits of charcoal mixed in with the dirt on the back. The lower piece is hollow.

The plate was about 10" deep. The deeper I got, the more I was sure it was a aluminum can ;) When I got to the last shovelfull, I could feel the resistance, so I went in and felt around with my hand. I knew what it was before I even pulled it out of the ground :biggrin: Never knew my hunting buddies could move that fast when I yelled out plate :lol: :lol: :lol:

holy cow,mike! joe told me about your plate. i just had to see it for myself. a little bit nicer than the 1st one you found(actually outstanding) congrats on a great find!
