I'm with the Snow Pirate on this one. Costume jewelry brooch, missing the pinback.

Then again, it could have been a fancy button.

I'm going with Graw. Here is a picture of bridle adornments on a bridle. It looks like a gig rivet on the back that would go through leather. If it was a brooch it would have marks for where the pin back would go. IMHO

Looks to me more like something that came off the helmet of a space traveler. Maybe when they crash landed it came off. I'd check it for radiation just to be on the safe side.
