today's finds and a bullet that needs id

got out for a couple of hours and found a few 58, 44, toe tap and a bullet that i can't id. Dia is .50 and length is .97. there is a sprue in the cavity and I don't have a clue. Any help.

Your bullet doesn't fit anything I'm familiar with. Similar to a "Georgia teat base" but they are larger diameter. Better pics would help. If you can get exact micrometer diameter measurements and length, then try to find someone that reloads and weigh on their bullet scale. I need to know the weight in grains. Let me know via email.

BTW; Kerr is pronounced CAR in England. It is pronounced CARE in Scotland and we just say Kerr, like it's spelled :) Tim, if you have a Kerr (#439 in the MM book) it will have a dia of .422 and a weight of 225 grains. It was for the British Kerr target rifle which the south used as a sharpshooters (sniper) rifle. They are tiny compared to typical .57 caliber bullets. Length will be .910. Would be a good find for sure. Here they are only known from the battle of Murfreesboro/Stone's River area (1862-63: 3 day battle). Good hunting, David@Dixie
