Todays FInd -Saint Christopher Medallion

I found this in a local park today. It looks 20th century to me. Maybe 1940's? Any experts out there?

Wonder what it is made of. Most are sterling or some non-corrosive metal. I've got a slew of SC medals and all are nice and shiny.

good find cam they were quite common here in the late fifties and sixties i went to a Catholic school then and a lot of kids wore them around their neck.a lot were sterling silver that were given as gifts at confirmation and other Catholic holidays.

I found a "miraculous medal" in the backyard. It was at about
5 inches or so. At first, I thought O goody!, some silver.
But after looking at it close, I don't think it is. Maybe silver
plated, but where there are scratches, I see dark underneith,
and I don't silver would do that. ? But not sure, I don't know
much at all about IDing metals... :( I also don't see any
number on it...Seems most real silver has a number I thought
doesn't it? It does have a stamp saying it was made in Italy.

I posted the medallion on the Christian forum hoping for info. Lots of nice people there. Here is the story behind Saint Christopher...

I remembered something about that saying because one of the guys on the forum (Leslie) found one that was in Latin.

Looks like all of the "miraculous medals" have the date "1830" on it. As the story goes, that's the year a nun had a vision and spoke to Mary who instructed her to make the medals... whoever wore the medal, especially around their necks, would receive "graces". Not exactly biblical but interesting.

Weird thing is she was buried in 1876, exhumed in 1933 and appeared to be fresh as a daisy even after being dead all that time She's actually on display in a glass case near an alter under one of the spots she susposedly had the vision. here's a link to the story.
